Southern Hills Hospital announces 2021 class of medical residents
Las Vegas, NV. – Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center announced its 2021 class of Medical Residents during the annual Match Day. The talented group of 32 new residents will join the 32 current residents based Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center.
The new Medical Residents were announced during the annual event called Match Day – when graduating medical students learn where they will be spending the next several years as residents. Matched residents filled open positions within the following programs:
- Family Medicine
- Transitional Year
- Psychiatry
- Neurology
- GI Fellowship
- Addiction Medicine
The match included residents for existing and new graduate medical education programs, including Addiction Medicine based at Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center. Southern Hills Hospital is the first to offer an Addiction Medicine Fellowship in the state of Nevada.
This year, the GME program at Southern Hills Hospital received a significant amount of applications for a limited number of positions. Nationwide more than 47,000 registrants applied for 38,000 spots according to National Resident Matching Program®. Southern Hills will welcome our fellows for Addiction Medicine beginning June 1st, with the other programs beginning in July and August.
Southern Hills Hospital launched its Graduate Medical Education program in 2017 with the accreditation of its Family Medicine Program. Since then, the GME program at Southern Hills has grown to include six programs.
ACGME is a private, non-profit organization that evaluates and accredits graduate medical education (GME) programs. Residency is the final phase of a long educational process, required for a physician to practice medicine, and is most influential in determining where a physician eventually practices.
