Southern Hills Hospital, a member of the Sunrise Health System, awarded $24,000 in scholarship funds to six Southern Nevada high school seniors supporting their college education focusing on healthcare careers. Scholarships were awarded at The Public Education Foundation’s annual scholarship luncheon held at The Venetian. The High School to Healthcare Scholarship program is administered through the hospital’s partnership with The Public Education Foundation. Each student was awarded $1,000 per year for four years toward their college expenses.

“Southern Hills Hospital is proud to invest in our talented youth in Nevada,” said Joyce Goedeke, Southern Hills Hospital Vice President of Marketing/Public Relations. “The High School to Healthcare Scholarship program provides opportunities to these hard working students and supports their desire to become our future healthcare leaders.“

Scholarship recipients are from the following high schools: Clark, Liberty, Southwest Career and Technical Academy and West Career and Technical Academy.

Recipient and West Career and Technical Academy student Jon Andre Parrilla said, “Healthcare is engrained in my DNA. Ever since I was young, I was exposed to the medical field. I am excited for the advancements of medical technology and the enhancement of patient care, and I cannot wait to see how I fit into the field of healthcare.”

Southern Hills Hospital created the High School to Healthcare Scholarship program in 2014, when it collaborated with The Public Education Foundation. The scholarship funds were a result of the hospital’s Balloon Festival, which occurs annually to raise money for a local non-profit. Funds were raised through event sponsorships and vendor fees. Since 2014, Southern Hills Hospital has awarded $84,000 to 21 high school seniors in Nevada.
