This August Sunrise Health System’s Health To You (H2U) programs celebrate 30 years of serving our community through health education, social programs, support groups and community service.
H2U’s Las Vegas chapters are located at each of Sunrise Health Systems’ hospitals: Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, MountainView Hospital, and Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center.
In honor of the milestone, H2U received proclamations from Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and U.S. Senator Dean Heller. Additionally, City of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman proclaimed Aug. 3, 2017 as H2U day.
H2U began August 1987 as Humana Hospital Sunrise Senior Association and primarily focused on helping patients read and understand their Medicare EOB-Explanation of Benefits. From these humble beginnings and several name changes - Senior Friends, to now H2U, it has become a comprehensive program that provides numerous educational programs on health and wellness throughout the Las Vegas valley.
In addition to the national benefits and services provided, H2U centers at each hospital campus have educational luncheons with physicians, health and life experts and social programming, as well as offsite locations and health fairs. H2U also offers numerous support groups at its Las Vegas hospital locations.
H2U still assists Medicare clients with SHIP- State Health Insurance assistance Program Counselor once a month and during Medicare open enrollment once a week.
In December 1999 – H2U began its relationship with Catholic Charities “Meals on Wheels Project Angel Tree,” providing gifts during the holiday season for their homebound clients. To date more than 4,500 gifts have been donated by MountainView, Southern Hills and Sunrise employees, volunteers as well as H2U members.
“Our 30-year commitment to our community has come to fruition because of the support from Sunrise Health System hospitals, hard work, bountiful compassion and endless dedication of all our educators, physicians, staff, volunteers and H2U members,” said Rita Moore, MountainView Hospital H2U manager.
