Breastfeeding Support is Here: Certified Lactation Consultant Onsite

Introducing Debbie Hernlund, Southern Hills’ new International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)! Debbie has more than 20 years of experience with assisting breastfeeding moms, and is more than just passionate about her craft – she “creates Milk Goddesses!”

“My philosophy to breastfeeding is simple: Give confidence to our moms,” said Debbie Hernlund, IBCLC. “If I can help moms understand the value of breastfeeding their babies, they will hopefully keep at it and not give up.”

Breastfeeding provides babies the vital nourishment during their infancy stages, as well as establishes long-lasting health benefits to both mom and baby.

Debbie also believes in the importance of educating and supporting nursing staff about how they can help the breastfeeding effort. “There are tips and tricks that are simple that we can share with moms. If we are all teaching the same message, it becomes a unified effort with the ultimate goal of the baby’s development, nourishment and healthy growth.”

Is breastfeeding easy?

For some moms, yes, but not necessarily for all. That is why Debbie Hernlund is an important component of the breastfeeding journey. Debbie’s high level of expertise assists moms to be successful from the first latch. “Breastfeeding can be stressful, but if moms are willing to work with their babies, it is a beautiful experience,” added Debbie.

Southern Hills Hospital respects that breastfeeding is a personal choice.
