Las Vegas, NV - Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium announced its 2020 class of Medical Residents during the annual Match Day.

The announcement was made during the annual event called Match Day - when graduating medical students learn where they will be spending the next several years as residents. Matched residents filled in all open positions within the following programs:

  • Anesthesiology
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • Internal Medicine
  • OB-GYN
  • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Psychiatry
  • Radiology
  • Transitional Year (dual programs at Southern Hills hospital and MountainView Hospitals)

The talented group of 109 new residents will join the 195 current residents based at Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center and MountainView Hospital. Specifically this cycle, 25 new residents matched at Southern Hills and 84 new residents matched at MountainView. The new residents will begin July 2020.

This year, Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium's program received a significant amount of applications for a limited number of positions. To list a few, the Internal Medicine residency program received 1,834 applications for 22 positions, Emergency Medicine received 750 for 11 positions, and Family Medicine received 1,074 for eight positions.

The 2020 Main Residency Match® was largest on record in the organization's history with a record-high 40,084 applicants submitted program choices for 37,256 positions, as reported by the National Resident Matching Program(R), which matches fourth-year medical students with hospital and universities to find the right "match" for their residency goals. This is also the first year in which all allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) applicants participated in one matching program.

"Another successful year of match results reflects the dedication of our program directors and coordinators, faculty and facility leadership in creating a comprehensive experience for potential residents," said Fran DeYoung, Division Director GME, HCA Far West Division. "Each year we continue to affirm our commitment to excellence for our hospitals and communities, and our growing class of residents continue to execute high standards for the future of the programs at Sunrise Health GME Consortium."

This Southern Hills GME program expanded to include a psychiatry residency, as well as a gastroenterology fellowship in July 2019. In July 2020, Southern Hills will also begin an addiction medicine fellowship, and is accepting applications for that now. The hospital is a member of the respected Sunrise Health System consisting of Sunrise Hospital, Sunrise Children's Hospital, MountainView Hospital and several surgery and diagnostic imaging centers offering a range of specialized and technologically advanced services.
