Our advanced surgical procedures

We offer a wide range of surgical services, including:

  • Colorectal surgery
  • Endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscopy (EBUS)
  • Gastrointestinal surgery, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF)
  • General surgery
  • Neurological surgery, including craniotomies
  • Joint replacement surgery
  • Spine surgery
  • Urologic surgery

General surgery

Our doctors may perform open surgery or use minimally invasive techniques to treat a range of conditions, including issues affecting the abdomen and digestive tract. Laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgical options only require one or a few small incisions that doctors use to insert surgical equipment and a camera for viewing.

Colorectal surgery

Colorectal surgery is performed to treat conditions and disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon, such as rectal cancer. Traditionally, this procedure is performed through a large abdominal incision. When this procedure is performed to treat rectal cancer, the surgeon removes the cancer and then performs a low anterior resection to connect the rectum to the colon. The surgeon may also perform an abdominoperineal resection if the rectal cancer is located too close to the anus.

We now offer minimally invasive colorectal surgeries. Robot-assisted surgery offers a minimally invasive option that combines the best techniques of an open surgery with the enhanced capabilities of laparoscopic surgery. By using the robotic surgical system, our surgeons are able to perform delicate procedures in hard-to-reach areas using small incisions, offering patients fast recoveries.

Gynecologic surgery

Our women's care program offers gynecologic surgeries to treat a wide range of conditions that affect women, including fibroids, endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding, uterine prolapse and certain cancers or pre-cancers. We specialize in minimally invasive procedures, including robot-assisted endometriosis resection and minimally invasive hysterectomy.

Joint replacement surgery

Our orthopedic program offers advanced robot-assisted surgery for total knee, partial knee and total hip replacement procedures. The highly advanced robotic technology we use has transformed the way joint replacement surgery is performed, enabling surgeons increased accuracy. This minimally invasive procedure is a great option for patients experiencing debilitating pain of the knee or hip.

Neurological surgery

In addition to providing fast and effective stroke treatments through our emergency room, our neurosurgeons offer a wide range of neurological treatments, including craniotomy. A craniotomy is a type of brain surgery commonly performed to remove a tumor, remove a blood clot, control hemorrhaging or relieve pressure inside the skull.

Spine surgery

We are the first hospital in Las Vegas and one of the few hospitals in the country to offer groundbreaking augmented reality (AR) guided spine surgery. Through AR-guided spine surgery, our surgeons can “see” a patient’s spine in 3D through the skin during minimally invasive spine surgery.

Urologic surgery

Our urology program specializes in outpatient procedures to treat conditions affecting the urinary system and the male reproductive system. Many of our procedures are performed using robot-assisted surgery at The Las Vegas Institute for Robotic Surgery.

Robotic surgery

During robot-assisted surgery, the surgeon works at a console located in the surgical suite. The surgeon sees a 3D-enhanced visualization of the surgical area. They can then manipulate highly sensitive controls to control instruments attached to the robotic system.

What are the benefits of robotic surgery compared to traditional methods?

For the surgeon, some of the major benefits associated with using robotic techniques over traditional approaches include:

  • Enhanced visualization
  • Greater surgical precision
  • Improved surgical access
  • Improved surgical dexterity
  • Increased range of motion

Patients may also experience benefits associated with robot-assisted methods compared to traditional surgery, including:

  • Faster recovery times
  • Fewer transfusions
  • Less blood loss
  • Less pain
  • Less risk of infection
  • Less scarring
  • Quicker returns to normal daily activities
  • Shorter hospital stays

Will the robotic surgical equipment make the surgeon unnecessary?

The system does not operate on its own. It replicates the surgeon’s hand movements in real time. Robotic surgery enables surgeons to be more precise, enhancing their ability to perform complex minimally invasive surgery. It cannot function without the surgeon’s input.

What robotic surgeries are available?

We use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible, ensuring our patients have the best surgical experience we can provide. We offer robot-assisted techniques for:

  • Colorectal surgeries
  • Early lung cancer detection procedures
  • General surgeries
  • Gynecologic surgeries, including endometriosis resection and hysterectomy
  • Spine surgeries
  • Thoracic (chest) surgeries
  • Urologic surgeries
