Recognition

Southern Hills Hospital is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography, ultrasound and nuclear medicine. The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed.

Comprehensive imaging services

Our radiologists are board-certified and fellowship-trained to offer superior service and quality to our referring physicians. We provide imaging services across the following medical specialties:

  • Breast health
  • Cardiology
  • Emergency medicine

Breast cancer screening

Southern Hills Hospital is proud to offer a new breast tomosynthesis solution designed with 3D imaging technology. This advanced technology is an important step in detecting breast cancer as early as possible. Additional breast imaging techniques we use include:

  • Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with computer aided detection (CAD)
  • Breast ultrasounds
  • Digital mammography
  • Minimally invasive breast biopsies

A key challenge when performing breast health services is keeping radiation levels as low as possible. With our advanced equipment, there is no increase in dose in radiation from a 2D standard mammogram to a 3D mammogram. We use a low-dose short X-ray sweep around the positioned breast with nine exposures acquired using a “step-and-shoot” method. This process removes the potential motion from the tube, increasing image sharpness.

To schedule a breast screening appointment, please call (702) 916-7288.

Cardiac diagnostic procedures

We offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures to diagnose and treat issues affecting cardiovascular care, which includes:

  • Echocardiograms (2D and 3D)
  • Electrocardiograms (EKG or ECG)
  • Ultrasounds (aortic and carotid duplex)
  • Intravascular and coronary ultrasounds

Emergency imaging services

Rapid evaluation of every patient needing emergency care through our triage program ensures we can determine the level of support needed and begin life-saving interventions as quickly as possible. An important part of this process is having advanced digital imaging and other diagnostic services available 24/7, including:

  • Computerized tomography (CT) scans
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Ultrasounds
  • X-rays

Our outpatient infusion and transfusion specialties

Our Outpatient Infusion Center offers a wide range of transfusion and infusion services to adult patients Monday through Friday.

This service is available across the following specialties:

The length of your infusion and/or transfusion appointment depends on the patient and the infusion/transfusion services being provided. For example, packed red blood cell transfusions typically take two hours per unit to transfuse. Platelets take approximately one hour per unit to transfuse.

To schedule an appointment, please call (702) 916-5000, then choose 0 for the operator.

  • Anti-nausea medications
  • Antibiotics
  • Blood products, including platelets and packed red blood cells
  • Electrolyte replacement and infusions
  • Iron infusions
  • IV hydration
  • Medication infusions

Preparing for an infusion

Before an infusion, we recommend that patients take all their scheduled medications and dress comfortably. Patients may also bring snacks, and we offer snacks. We try to give patients a comfortable experience. That's why there are recliners and flat-screen TVs for each patient.

Pre-transfusion testing

Pre-transfusion testing involves "type and screen" to determine donor/recipient compatibility. A type and screen is good for 72 hours. For example, a patient can have their type and screen drawn on a Friday and have their transfusion on a Monday.
