Low intervention birth options

We want to honor all moms birth plans as best we can. We know pain management during the birth of your child is an extremely personal choice, so we offer an array of pain options from epidural to more low intervention options, including:

  • Aromatherapy diffuser
  • Birthing ball
  • Chairs for when you are in the shower
  • CUB tool for positioning
  • Flameless candles
  • Himalayan salt lamp
  • Peanut ball
  • Portable speaker or sound machine for soothing sounds
  • Wireless fetal monitors

Nitrous oxide

Southern Hills Hospital is excited to offer nitrous oxide as a new pain management option for moms. Nitrous oxide works quicker than an epidural and without many of the side effects. Nitrous oxide also gives laboring moms control of their pain management. It is administered through a mask, so moms can choose when to put the mask on and when to take it off. Nitrous oxide has also been showing to create a sense of pleasure and relaxation while decreasing anxiety.

Our 24/7 laborist program

Southern Hills Hospital offers a 24/7 laborist program. This ensures qualified OB/GYN physicians are at the hospital 24/7, providing laboring moms specialized care whenever they need it. Should any emergencies arise, our laborists will be on the scene to care for you and your baby and assist your physician once they arrive. Our laborist program is supported by Women’s Health Associates of Southern Nevada (WHASN).

See for yourself: Take a tour of our facility

We believe visiting the place where you are planning to have your baby can help relieve some pre-birth anxiety and make your birthing experience more enjoyable. We offer regularly scheduled unit tours, or you can complete a tour as part of our childbirth classes.

Childbirth education classes

In addition to free tours, we offer regularly scheduled education classes. Please call (702) 916-5023 or visit classes and events for days and times. Classes include:

Breastfeeding support groups

Breastfeeding can be stressful, so we want to help moms in a supportive environment. This class is a place where moms can share stories and ask questions. The class is facilitated by a lactation counselor who walks moms

Prepared childbirth class

Do you have questions about what to expect when the time comes to deliver? We are happy to help! Join our live Prepared Childbirth Class. A nurse will answer questions and give guidelines on what you can expect.

New sibling class

The arrival of a new baby means big changes for your whole family, including big brother or sister. The New Sibling Class helps parents and siblings prepare for the new baby. Older siblings can feel neglected when all of the attention is on the new baby, this can cause them to lash out or act out. This class allows older children to feel a part of the process and even teaches them how to hold a baby, how to change diapers and allows them to see the place where mom will bring their new sibling into the world. The class is split up into a portion for the older siblings, and a portion for the parents.

Prenatal yoga

At Southern Hills Hospital we are here for you before, during, and after baby is born. Before little one arrives we’re inviting the community to our free prenatal yoga classes. This class is taught by the owner of Prenatal Yoga Las Vegas, Angela. Angela has specialized training in prenatal yoga, fertility yoga and even yoga that focuses on the pelvic floor.

While you can do the class throughout your entire pregnancy we noticed most moms like to start in the second trimester. Anyone from the community is allowed to attend. Please bring your own yoga mat.
