Las Vegas, NV — Southern Hills Hospital celebrated the ribbon cutting and opening of the Pavilion, an 80-bed inpatient unit dedicated to behavioral health treatment for patients age 13 and older, making it the only facility to offer behavioral health services in southwest Las Vegas.
Spanning over 45,000 SF, the $30 million unit features industry-leading technology. This includes real-time patient tracking systems, laser curtains between beds in adolescent rooms and alarms on top of doors to detect weight. This technology helps create a safe environment of care for patients and employees. Four outdoor patient recreation areas, offer the ability to receive therapy in a comforting outdoor environment.
“With Nevada’s rapid population growth, there was an unmet need for behavioral health services which results in a backlog in emergency rooms or in individuals going without proper care, “ said Adam Rudd, Chief Executive Officer, Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center. “By expanding behavioral health services, we are providing the community with the convenient, close to home access they need. This shows our commitment to our community and to the care and the improvement of human life.”
Southern Hills Hospital Pavilion added 66 beds to the existing 14 senior beds for a total of 20 adolescent beds, 40 adult beds and 20 senior beds. The senior unit is Alzheimer’s disease certified by The Joint Commission. Common conditions treated range from, but are not limited to, anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychosis and schizophrenia. The additional of Southern Hills Hospital Pavilion, created more than 100 new jobs.
Later this year, Southern Hills Hospital Pavilion will open an outpatient clinic to offer continuum of care. Additionally, the hospital’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) program is awaiting approval of a psychiatric residency program.
“Mental health disorders may not be something that we visibly see every day, but they are present,” said Rudd. “With access to appropriate care, we hope this will help prevent injuries and help to save lives.”
